Cables for the petrochemical sector, instrumentation and process control

The IMC petrochemical range includes cables for analog and digital signals, instrumentation, process control and connections in harsh industrial environments. Available configurations may include individual and overall shielding, metallic armouring, and sheaths selected based on exposure to oils, hydrocarbons, chemicals and specific installation requirements.

Construction Options in Accordance with EN 50288-7

Conductors and Insulation

Conductors
Bare or tinned copper, primarily flexible stranded (Class 2 or Class 5) with standardized cross-sections (e.g., 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5 mm2).

High-Performance Insulation

XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene)
Offers excellent dielectric properties, low mutual capacitance, and a maximum operating temperature of 90°C.

Special PVC
Ideal for standard installations requiring high flexibility.

PE (Polyethylene)
Suitable for high-speed data transmission due to its extremely low capacitance.

Core Construction and Shielding (EMC Protection)

Formation
Cores twisted in pairs (shielded or unshielded), triples or quads, with optimized lay lengths to minimize crosstalk.

Individual Shielding (PiMF / TiMF)
Each individual pair or triple is wrapped with an aluminum/polyester tape and drain wire. Essential for isolating adjacent circuits carrying different signal types.

Overall Shielding
An overall aluminum/polyester tape (or bare/tinned copper braid) encloses the entire cable core, protecting internal signals from electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by nearby power lines and inverters.

Advanced Chemical and Mechanical Protections

Hydrocarbon and Solvent Barrier
Upon request, an extruded sheath made of suitable material can be applied to protect internal cores from the degrading action of petrol, aromatic hydrocarbons and corrosive chemicals.

Metallic Armour
Constructed with a galvanized steel wire braid (SWB). Provides heavy-duty protection against crushing, mechanical pull-out, and rodent damage in direct burial installations.

ATEX Area Compliance and Fire Safety

Intrinsically Safe Circuits (Ex-i)
In accordance with EN 50288-7 requirements for installations in potentially explosive atmospheres, cables intended for Ex-i circuits are manufactured with a Blue RAL 5015 outer sheath for rapid visual identification. For non-intrinsically safe circuits, the standard outer sheath is black (with UV-resistant properties).

LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) Compounds
Sheaths compliant with reaction-to-fire standards (CPR Regulation). In the event of a fire, halogen-free compounds do not propagate flames, release translucent smoke, and reduce toxic or corrosive gas emissions, safeguarding control room personnel and electronic equipment.
